  • 2 Large tomatoes, chopped

  • 1/2 Teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 Tablespoon rasam powder
  • 1 Tablespoon ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Extract tamarind juice by soaking the tamarind in warm water and straining the pulp. Set aside.
  2. In a pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds, dried red chilies, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes to the tempering and cook until they turn soft.
  4. Add turmeric powder and rasam powder to the tomatoes, stirring well to combine.
  5. Pour the tamarind water into the pan and let it simmer for a few minutes. 
  6. Season with salt and let the rasam simmer until it reaches a flavorful consistency.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, enhancing the freshness and aroma of the rasam.
  8. Serve the Rasam hot as a comforting soup or pair it with steamed rice for a complete meal. It's also perfect for sipping on a chilly day!
